After a day sightseeing or just lounging around the beach you can be sure of a good night out in Ocho Rios. Most of the hotels and resorts offer some form of evening entertainment but for a more local flavour head for James Street known as the Reggae Strip.
This comes alive every Thursday evening starting at 7pm. Suddenly the street starts to bustle with live entertainers and stalls offering local food. One of the top nightspots in town is Jamaic’n Me Crazy at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande. It’s popular with both locals and visitors. Tel 876-974-2201.
For those who want things to get a little more jumping, the best bet is Amnesia, a traditional Jamaican nightclub located in Main Street. This is reggae and dancehall at its best complete with rooftop dance floor.

If you are looking for an evening closer to your holiday home then you can spend an evening at the nearby world famous Couples Ocho Rios. Although it is an all-inclusive resort you can buy evening passes that include drinks, an evening meal and a show.
Eating out in Jamaica is amazing. You can sample food from all over the world but save a little space for the local dishes.
Jamaica is proud of the spicy Jerk seasoning that is rubbed into meat and fish before grilling. Don’t forget the Ackee and saltfish, dumplings and yam. Jamaican curries are always good to sample and look out for the curried goat on special occasions. It’s slow cooked for maximum flavour and beautiful. |
